Newsletter:
Happy Labor Day to everyone! Hope you can get together with your family
and friends and have a great holiday!
What a busy month...
Let's begin by Kicking the month off with Mission Bay
High's Annual Picnic at De Anza Cove on September 7th and of course all the
planned events to follow for the All 50's Class Reunion. These begin on Friday, September 26th
and continue through Sunday, September
28th.
Be informed. Please check out our
calendar section in News and Announcements at www.MBHS1959.org
for a full list of September events. What a fun time this dedicated Reunion
Committee members have
planned for us all. There is something for everyone; a picnic, golf, dinner,
dancing, a tour of our Alma Mater, a silent auction, and to wrap it all up a Sunday breakfast with old friends. Don't miss out on the fun!
Time is ticking and
there's less than a month to go to reunion weekend. We expect a great turnout!
This site will
undergo a makeover after the reunion, so keep visiting! Look for lots of
pictures from the reunion!
With countdown barely but a month to go, The Reunion Committee is
excited! We're
all thrilled that all the work and dedication is paying off! Reservations
now number over 280. There is still time to join in
on the fun. Just get your reservations in ASAP or you will miss the
best MBHS 50's reunion of the century! Make plans to be there - it's gonna be
"groovy."
Old
friends: Speaking of old friends...Some weeks back I was reminiscing with
Robert (Bob) Olivas.
I was telling Bob that I had heard through the grapevine that
he, Bill Gould, Jimmy Cox, Kenny Cox had created the following Cheer before a
Point Loma football game: Catch that ball, Run for the Goal, Push Pt. Loma in
that Hole"
Bob Later told me the whole story: "We
were hanging around Gould's back yard and just started brain storming (although
we did not know that was what we were doing at the time) and came up with the
cheer before a Pt. Loma football game. Don't recall if we won the game but
we had fun at the pep rally when we introduced the cheer and unveiled our "secret
sound machine" (SSM). You see we were all amateur grease monkeys
and thought if we made a box, installed a bunch of car horns from Rose Canyon
Wrecking yard and a car battery it would make a wonderfully loud and annoying
noise we could direct at the opposing team when they started to cheer. We
unveiled the SSM at a pep rally and it was the biggest flop ever. The
battery went dead, it weighed a ton and made the most pitiful groan that could
barely be heard if you were standing right next to the thing.
Oh well, it was fun making the SSM anyway...
Great Memories Bring Big Smiles... Thanks Bob!
(Years later Bob heard the guys cheer once again on a San Diego radio broadcast)
